District ECO-SDG Championship 2024
MH Vatavaran, the Environment Society of Miranda House, is dedicated to amplifying the voices of students, faculty, and non-teaching staff regarding shared environmental issues within our college community and beyond. Throughout the year, the society organizes a range of activities, including plantation drives, webinars, seminars, competitions, video creation, slogan and poster contests, documentary screenings, workshops, walkathons, and clean-up drives. MH Vatavaran has received recognition from the Department of Environment, Government of NCT Delhi. Additionally, Miranda House has earned several accolades, including certification as a "Sustainable Campus" from the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The institution has also been recognized as a Social Entrepreneurship, Swachata and Rural Engagement Cell (SES REC) Institution.
During the previous academic year, 2023-24, the society successfully participated and completed the Apex District ECO-SDG Championship 2023 and received an outstanding performance grade of “S” for North Campus in October 2023. Additionally, MH Vatavaran was acknowledged for its participation in Global Roti Day organized under the Poshan Abhiyan Scheme, Govt. of India. In continuing efforts to reduce the use of single-use plastics, MH Vatavaran signed an MoU with Bisleri under the Bottles for Change CSR Initiative.
ZERO-Waste Campus Initiative
MH Vatavaran has taken a significant step towards sustainability with the successful completion of four impactful drives under the Zero Waste Campus Initiative. Through the Cleanliness Drives on 12th September and 1st October, the Plastic Waste Collection Drive on 20th September, and the Cloth Donation Drive on 19th September 2024, the team has actively worked to promote waste reduction and environmental responsibility. These initiatives not only aim to create a cleaner and greener campus but also inspire the community to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. Together, we are building a sustainable future!

E-Waste Awareness: Dispose Responsibly! 🌍♻ Got broken gadgets or unused electronics? Don’t let them go to waste! Safely dispose of all your electronic waste at Room 306, our campus’s official e-waste collection point. By recycling e-waste, you help reduce toxic materials in landfills and support a sustainable future. Our volunteers have created informative posters to guide you on what qualifies as e-waste and why responsible disposal is crucial. Let’s work together to keep our campus and planet clean—one gadget at a time!
Documentary Series on Local Environmental Challenge
As part of the APEX SDG challenges, the society has developed a documentary series that explores pressing environmental concerns in our region, particularly the national capital, Delhi. Through a collection of short documentaries, we have highlighted critical issues such as solid waste management, water scarcity, and pollution. This series will not only raise awareness but also engage our college community and the broader public in meaningful conversations about the importance of environmental stewardship. By documenting these challenges, we hope to inspire action and foster a deeper understanding of the ecological landscape we inhabit.
Video Making about illnesses caused due to Pollution/eating high calorie food/ junk food/ unprotected food/ over eating food/ malnutrition/ lack of sanitation and hygiene
As part of the APEX SDG, students of the Skill Enhancement Course (SEC): Basics of Food Science and Nutrition, developed informative videos that addresses the serious health issues stemming from pollution, unhealthy eating habits, and inadequate sanitation. By focusing on topics such as illnesses related to high-calorie and junk food, overeating, malnutrition, and the impact of pollution, students aimed to raise awareness about these critical public health challenges. Through these videos, we seek to educate our audience on the interconnectedness of these factors and promote healthier lifestyle choices and improved sanitation practices within our community.
SDG Themed Nukkad Natak Performance
MH Vatavaran Volunteers performed a compelling Nukkad Natak at the MH Tech Park Lawns, addressing the urgent issue of plastic and garbage disposal. The act creatively showcased the harmful effects of plastic waste on public health, urban spaces, and the environment, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 11, and 12, which focus on good health, sustainable cities, and responsible consumption and production. With engaging performances, the volunteers emphasized the need for mindful consumption and proper waste management. The message was clear: by adopting responsible practices today, we can work together for a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable tomorrow.
District-Wide SDG Quiz Competition
The quiz competition aimed to test students' knowledge on the 17 SDGs. The event provided aplatform for students to showcase their knowledge, compete with peers, and contribute to theglobal sustainability movement. The quiz aimed to increase awareness about the SDGs amongparticipating students and inspire action toward achieving a sustainable future.The participation number was high and there were total registrations of 62 students from variouscolleges affiliated with Delhi University including Motilal Nehru College,Hansraj, Shyama PrasadMukherjee, Gargi,Dyal Singh College,Sri Aurobindo College, Deshbandhu College, SGNDKhalsa, Department of Electronic science- SDC, Dept. Of chemistry & Daulat Ram college alongwith the students of Miranda House.

Campus Sustainability Expo
Pitching for a Greener tomorrow. Miranda House in collaboration with the STEPS Organisation hosted an impactful Sustainability Conclave, featuring women-led ventures and eco-pioneers. The 2-day conclave was filled with inspiring business pitches from small businesses and companies making a big impact. MH Vatavaran proudly took the stage to showcase their eco-friendly initiatives, igniting meaningful conversations.
