In pursuit of cleaner energy sources, Miranda House has taken significant strides by setting up solar power plants within the college premises. Our journey began in 2016 with a 7 kW plant installed on the canteen terrace. While this initial installation served as a stepping stone, it wasn't sufficient to meet the college's approximately 1000 kW energy demand. In collaboration with Oakridge Private Limited, we set up another plant with a capacity of 150 kW on the terrace of the New Building .
Solar Lights Illuminating Our Campus
Adding to our sustainable infrastructure, approximately 40 solar lights are strategically installed across the campus. These lights, of varying shapes, brighten our pathways and surroundings with renewable energy. Ten of these lights enhance the ambiance of the Sports ground, while the remaining thirty are thoughtfully spread throughout the rest of the campus, exemplifying our commitment to energy-efficient practices.
Expanding Our Solar Footprint: A Third Plant in Progress
We believe in continuous progress and are thrilled to announce that a third solar power plant is currently under development. Predicted to be operational by this year, the plant is designed to produce 36 units per day for the next 20-25 years. The ambitious project, in collaboration with Sunprime Energy Solutions Limited, will be established on an empty plot near Khalsa College. Beyond serving Miranda House, it will also contribute to meeting the energy needs to our neighbouring colleges .
Reliable Partnerships: Supporting Renewable Energy
While solar energy is an eco-friendly alternative, we acknowledge its intermittency. To ensure uninterrupted energy supply, we have a steadfast tie-up with TATA Industries. During periods when solar electricity generation is limited, TATA Industries supports us, providing a reliable solution to meet our energy demands.
At Miranda House, we take pride in our energy-efficient initiatives and our journey towards a greener and more sustainable future. By harnessing solar power and maintaining strong partnerships, we continue to lead the way in promoting eco-conscious practices within our college community and beyond. Together, we pave the path towards a cleaner and more sustainable tomorrow.
