WALLS OF SUSTAINABILITY : Promoting Environmental Awareness through Art
If you ever stroll around the tech park at Miranda House, you might have encountered an awe-inspiring sight – vibrant paintbrushes, cleaning cloths, and enthusiastic faces adorned with eco-friendly hues. This was none other than the remarkable initiative of MH Vatavaran, in collaboration with NSS and Adwitiya, to champion sustainability within our haven. Inspired by Mother Teresa's words, "Charity begins at home," the creative minds at MH Vatavaran contemplated the idea that "Sustainability begins at home" and brought it to life through breath taking wall paintings.
In July, the wall extending into the Miranda Tech Park was transformed into a canvas of sustainable wisdom. MH Vatavaran's exuberant volunteers painted striking images that celebrated our indigenous practices and rich cultural heritage, emphasising that sustainability is rooted in our very being. With vibrant strokes, they conveyed the message that protecting the environment starts from within, nurturing the very essence of our existence.
In January, two more beautiful paintings graced the walls of the tech park, this time focused on water conservation and forest protection. The artwork aimed to raise concern among visitors about our planet preservation and the urgency to save water. The first painting depicted the devastating impact of deforestation on biodiversity, emphasizing how clearing even a small patch of forest can lead to the loss of countless plants and animals that have thrived for years. It served as a powerful reminder of our responsibility to protect our natural ecosystems.
The second painting highlighted the need for collective action to conserve water. By portraying the importance of unity in water conservation efforts, the painting encouraged individuals to come together and take small steps that can make a significant difference in safeguarding this precious resource.
These thought-provoking paintings served as powerful tools for environmental advocacy, capturing the attention of visitors and instilling a sense of responsibility for our planet.
